Customer Connects® Announces
Innovative New LED Product
Combining Ottawa
High Tech Ingenuity and Mother/Daughter Chutzpa
Ottawa — June 6, 2008 — Today, at the headquarters of Customer Connects® in Carleton Place, ON, 30 kilometers west of the nation’s capital, president and founder Linda Pond announced the product launch of Coghlan’s Cooler Light. Mother Linda and Daughter Rhonda Puckett, along with Ottawa engineer Dave Watson, are co-inventors of a product that no camping enthusiast should be without. A wireless, battery operated light consisting of a single Light Emitting Diode (LED) attaches to the inside lid of the camping cooler, and provides hands-free lighting to a normally darkened interior. Using sophisticated engineering, technology and components, the light automatically turns on when the lid is opened, and turns off when the lid is closed – just like your fridge.

LuminCity/Coghlans - Global
Customer Signed
In April 2007, Linda flew to Winnipeg to introduce the working prototype of The Cooler Light to Rob Coghlan, owner of Coghlan’s Ltd, the leading global distributor of camping accessories. Mr. Coghlan loved the product, and his team provided much needed feedback to improve the design and customer interface of The Cooler Light. Coghlan’s Ltd and LuminCity Inc. signed an exclusive distribution agreement in May, 2007. Coghlan’s Cooler Light will be available at selected Wal-Mart Canada and Canadian Tire stores across the country, including Ottawa, this summer.
The Cooler Light,
patent-pending, is the direct result of a Customer Connects® networking event
that took place in August, 2005. In an
effort to stimulate job creation, Ottawa’s high tech unemployed and
underemployed, including members of the Kanata Kareer Group (KKG) and Ottawa
Talent Initiative (OTI) were invited to participate in the first ever Customer
Connects® NEEDS EVENT, located at the Kanata office of OTI. The objective of the NEEDS EVENT was to
provide a platform for new ideas, and to get our Ottawa unemployed high tech
community out of the basement and back
into productive society.
A Family Affair
The NEEDS Event also used family ingenuity. Not only are Linda and Rhonda mother and daughter, they are also the catching and pitching duo for Team NAPA of the Carleton Place Ladies Fastball League. As Rhonda was reaching into the darkened cooler for her favorite beverage, she exclaimed, “Here’s a NEED for your event tomorrow, Mom…. This cooler NEEDS a light”. Indeed it did.
Rhonda’s NEED was introduced at the NEEDS event as an example of what was meant by a market need. After participants brainstormed 36 other NEEDS, the Cooler Light was chosen as a project that could be developed and perhaps even taken to market. Dave Watson, an event participant, produced the first prototype the very next day.
Founded in 2002, Customer Connects® is designed to bridge customer relationships through face-to-face, innovative networking events aimed at Ottawa’s entrepreneurs. The goal of the company is to promote new companies and provide a channel to market for new product ideas. Customer Connects® used its extensive network of local companies to complete product development. Intectus and DW Canada - who are also early investors – Customer Connects®, Alternative Designs, Futurtek, BRM Group, Synergy, and Lunan Corp. were engaged in all stages of development. IP-MEX imparted intellectual property advice, and Industrial Research and Assistance Program (IRAP) provided funding for the services of Certified Management Consultant, Andrew Penny. A new company, LuminCity Inc, was incorporated in 2006 to represent their new invention to the world. And Rhonda, the NEED owner, will happily earn 10% of all profits generated from sales of The Cooler Light.
LuminCity Inc
